How Spicy Is It? A Spice-Level Guide to Our Halal Menu

It is the question we hear most: “Is the food spicy?” The honest answer at Wok & Karahi in Spring, TX is — only if you want it to be. On most of our halal Chinese, Indian and Pakistani dishes, you pick the heat: No Spice, Mild, Medium or Spicy. Here is how to order it just right, whether you are feeding kids or chasing a serious burn.

Spice is customizable on most dishes

Here is the part most guests do not realize: a great many of our dishes carry a Spice Level option, and you choose it when you order. The four settings are simple:

  • No Spice — gentle and family-friendly, no kick at all.
  • Mild — a soft background warmth, the safe default for most newcomers.
  • Medium — a noticeable, balanced heat without overpowering the dish.
  • Spicy — a confident, bring-the-heat finish for those who love it.

You will see this choice on our curries and Pakistani entrées, our Dum Biryani, our Chinese entrées, the Crispy Beef, and our rice and noodle dishes. Because we are a fully halal, made-to-order restaurant, the same dish can land at four different heat levels depending on who is eating it. Everything can be made to taste.

Dishes that are naturally mild

Some dishes are built to be gentle — rich, creamy and rounded rather than fiery. If you are new to South Asian or Indo-Chinese food, or simply prefer comfort over heat, start here:

  • Butter Chicken — a velvety tomato-butter sauce enriched with cream; mildly spiced and luscious by design.
  • Korma — a luxurious curry with ground nuts and cream; mild, rich and slightly sweet.
  • Malai Kofta — soft paneer-and-vegetable dumplings in a creamy cashew-tomato sauce; silky and pillowy.
  • Daal Makhani — black lentils simmered slowly with butter and cream until velvety.
  • Sweet & Sour and Broccoli — on the Chinese side, both are clean and crowd-pleasing, with the Sweet & Sour described as tangy and mild.
  • Sesame Chicken — our most popular Chinese dish: juicy fried chicken in a glossy, sweet sauce with toasted sesame.

Even these mild plates still let you choose a Spice Level, so you can keep them at No Spice for the kids or nudge them to Mild for a little warmth.

Dishes that lean bold

On the other end, a handful of dishes are designed to deliver heat — though every one of them can still be dialed down at the Spice Level step:

  • Vindaloo — a fiery curry with chili and a tangy vinegar base; a pleasant burn with a sour edge.
  • Spicy Chongqing — Sichuan-style, with dried chilies and numbing peppercorn over extra-crisp bites.
  • Kung Pao — wok-tossed with peanuts and chilies in a sweet-savory glaze; crunchy, nutty, balanced heat.
  • Karahi — cooked at high heat with tomatoes, ginger and chilies in the traditional Pakistani wok.
  • Chili and Chicken 65 — battered, fried bites in vibrant chili-forward sauces, marinated with ginger, garlic and red chili.

If you are a heat-seeker, order any of these at Spicy and our restaurant will lean into it. Want to push further? Pair a bold entrée with our Chilli Sauce or Schezwan Sauce on the side.

The Schezwan style on Chow Mein & Fried Rice

Our Chow Mein and Fried Rice carry one extra lever beyond Spice Level: a style choice. Pick Hakka (Traditional) for the classic, smoky wok flavor, or Schezwan (Spicy & Red) for a bolder, red-chili version with more punch. Combine Schezwan style with a higher Spice Level and you have one of the boldest plates on the menu — or keep it Hakka and Mild for an easy, family-friendly bowl.

How to order for kids and mild palates

Feeding little ones or a sensitive palate? A few easy moves:

  • Choose No Spice or Mild on any customizable dish — this single setting does most of the work.
  • Lean on the naturally mild picks above: Butter Chicken, Korma, Sweet & Sour and Sesame Chicken are reliable kid-pleasers.
  • Order from the Kids Menu — fries, nuggets and a Kids Happy Meal for the simplest plates.
  • On dishes like Chicken 65, there is even a No Sizzler option that we recommend when ordering with kids.

How to order for heat-seekers

If you live for the burn: set bold dishes like Vindaloo, Spicy Chongqing or Karahi to Spicy, choose Schezwan (Spicy & Red) on your Chow Mein or Fried Rice, and add a side of Chilli or Schezwan Sauce. Because every order is made to taste, one table can run the full range — a No Spice Butter Chicken for the kids, a Medium Biryani for you, and a Spicy Vindaloo for the chili lover — all in the same order.
